My latest technique I have been learning about and using is called body tempering. Body tempering is a form of myofascial release to help with improving range of motion, aiding structure alignment, preparation of tissue for working out and reducing muscle soreness thus increasing recovery.

Body tempering was developed by Donnie Thompson. The theory behind tempering according to Bodytempering.com is only based on a limited amount of research. Right now it is only thousands of hours of experience from dozens of people to compile the current body of evidence. The proposed mechanisms of action and related literature for support include: soft tissue manipulation/mobilization, Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, spinal mobilization, deep tissue, foam rolling, and elements of bloodflow restriction. Spinal manipulation or adjustments may occur, but should not be the intent of application. Also, true bloodflow restriction should only be performed clinically with FDA licensed devices and by certified individuals. Body Tempering should not be used as a bloodflow restriction device as it is not FDA approved.

There are 2 kinds of body tempering instruments I use. The first is called the Boomstick from Kabuki strength. I like the boomstick because it is lighter in weight but has 2 different types of treatment surfaces. One is used for deep pressure and the second can be used for myofascial glide and rolling.

The second tool is a series of full body rollers which can range in weight from 55 to 170 lbs. These can be self used for anterior part of the body, traps, upper arm and forearms, quads and adductors. It also is commonly therapist administered on the posterior chain from calves all the way up to the cervical spine.
